Picturing Moral Courage: Stories of Survival.
From interactive panel discussions and personal testimony, to photography exhibitions and film screenings — this 3-day conference not only highlighted the heroic actions of those who acted on behalf of others in times of war and genocide but also the important role youth can play in the dissemination of such stories. Youth participants, representing 15 Bosnian cities, 6 regional cities, and 19 countries heard from a wide range of multimedia artists, peace practitioners, scholars, and youth activists.
Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Inititiative.
In November 2014, as a part of the British Government’s initiative on preventing sexual violence in armed conflict, the Post-Conflict Research Center (PCRC) was designated by the British Embassy in Sarajevo as the lead organizer of a series of events that comprised the Bosnian launch of the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict. PCRC planned and coordinated forum discussions, presentations, and community outreach events in the Bosnian cities of Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar, Brcko and Zenica, generating local and national media coverage. PCRC was able to bring together more than 500 representatives from key public institutions, civil society organizations, victim’s associations, and the international community as well as Bosnian students, academics, activists, health care providers, and the media to discuss the prevention of sexual violence and the need to provide more effective support to survivors.
One Million Bones: the Road to Srebrenica.
As part of the 20th commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide, the Post Conflict Research Center (PCRC) partnered with the US-based Art of Revolution to bring its project One Million Bones to Bosnia. PCRC gathered regional and international youth to take part in a “Laying of the Bones” ceremony followed by a 5-day educational program to educate participants on topics related to moral courage, interethnic cooperation, and genocide prevention. Participants came from a broad range of countries, including Serbia, Montenegro, BiH, Croatia, Turkey, the Netherlands, Costa Rica, US, Australia, France, Norway, UK, Slovenia, Austria, and Czech Republic.
PTSD Treatment in Emergency Situations.
A 6-day educational study tour for fourteen Kyrgyz civil society representatives to BiH with the primary objectives to exchange professional experiences for the preparation of joint programs between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kyrgyzstan and to begin developing common measures in providing psychosocial support in emergency situations. The Post-Conflict Research Center (PCRC) organized exchanges with leading health care and psychosocial professionals and victim’s associations as well as site visits to trauma centers, hospitals, and psychiatric care units.
Remembrance & Forgiveness: Steps toward a Brighter Future.
The first event of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this conference brought together 35 international and 65 Bosnian youth participants to learn about and discuss topics related to genocide and concentration camp detainment. Keynote speakers and panelists—which included war correspondents, academics, and detainment camp survivors—specifically focused on the events that unfolded in Bosanska Krajina and Srebrenica during the Bosnian war.
